Fix a broken confirmation or reset link
Troubleshooting · Web & iOS · Last updated August 28, 2026
Quick answer
Open the confirmation or password-reset link in the same browser, on the same device, that you started from — that is the fix for almost every one of these. If the link has expired or was already clicked, request a fresh one from the signup or login page, or simply log in: clicking the link is what confirms your email, even when the page cannot finish signing you in.
Open it where you started
When you sign up or ask for a password reset, the browser you did it in keeps a secret, and the link we email you carries the matching half. They only work as a pair. Open that link anywhere else — another browser, a work laptop instead of your phone — and there is nothing to match against, so the page can only tell you to try again in the right place. (For the technically minded: this is the PKCE code exchange, and the verifier lives in the browser that made the request.)
Try logging in first
Clicking the link is what confirms your email address, and that happens before the page loads. So when the page fails to sign you in, try Log in before requesting anything new — the account is very likely confirmed already.
The three things you might see
| On screen | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A spinner saying Completing sign in…, then We couldn’t finish confirming your email here | The link was opened in a different browser from the one that started signup. | Reopen the same email in the original browser — or just log in. |
| This confirmation link has expired | Emailed links are deliberately short-lived, and this one aged out. | Get a fresh link, then click it straight away. |
| The link may be invalid or already used | Something has already clicked it: you, an earlier attempt, or an email security scanner. | Log in. An already-used confirmation link almost always means the account is confirmed. |
The password-reset page shows the same three states in its own words, ending in This password reset link has expired, We couldn’t verify this reset link, or We couldn’t verify your reset link here. Its Go to login button lands on the login page with a hint about requesting a new one; Reset your password walks the whole flow.
Get a fresh link
- 1
For a confirmation link, submit the signup form again
Go to Sign up and enter the same address and a password. There is no resend button on the web — re-submitting the form is the resend. If the address already belongs to a confirmed account you get a You already have an account card and no new email; use its Log in button.
- 2
For a password reset, start from the login page
Open Log in, type your address into the Email field first, then tap Forgot password?. With the field empty the button refuses rather than sending anything. A green Password reset email sent line confirms it worked.
- 3
Click it as soon as it arrives
Same browser, same device. A link left to sit will expire, and the expired page only sends you back to the start.
Don’t hammer the form
There is an hourly cap on auth emails, and repeated attempts from one network trip a rate limit that answers Too many attempts. Please try again later. Check spam and promotions first, then request once and wait.
If you signed up in the iPhone app
On iOS: The app’s Confirm your email screen tells you to open the link anywhere and then come back and sign in — that is the intended route, not a workaround. The same screen carries Resend email (briefly disabled after a successful send), I’ve confirmed — sign in for when you confirmed on another device, and Use a different email if you mistyped the address.
If you open that email on the same iPhone and land on the web confirmation page, it offers a quiet Open the app link beneath the spinner. Tap it — the app holds the half of the pair the web page does not. It shows for everyone who opens a confirmation link on an iPhone, since the page cannot tell an in-app signup from a desktop one — ignore it if you have no app.
On iOS: A password reset requested inside the iPhone app comes back to the app, not to the website. Open that email on the iPhone that has DawBets installed. To reset on a computer, request the reset from the website instead.
Why the page spins before it gives up
A working link is exchanged for a session in the background, which takes a moment. Both pages wait about ten seconds before deciding it is not going to happen — that is the spinner. Let it run rather than reloading. If you reach the failure message, nothing on your account broke: it is a failed sign-in, not a failed signup.
Mail scanners and link previews
Corporate mail filters, security gateways and some chat apps fetch every link in a message to check it. These links are single-use, so a scanner that gets there first spends yours and your own click lands on invalid or already used. For a confirmation link that is mostly harmless — the address is confirmed, so log in. For a reset link, request a new one and open it immediately.
When to email us
- A confirmation email never arrives, after checking spam and submitting the signup form again.
- The link fails in the browser you are certain you signed up in, and logging in does not work either.
- You need the email address on the account changed — there is no self-serve way to do it.
Write to team@dawbets.com with the address you signed up with and what the page said. See Contact support for what to include. One case is not this article at all: if the login form accepts your password and then throws you straight back to it, read Why you were signed out.
Common questions
Why does it matter which browser I open the link in?
The link only completes when it meets the matching secret your original browser stored. Opened anywhere else there is nothing for it to match, so the page can only tell you to try again in the right place.
The page spun for a while and then gave up. Is my account broken?
No, and nothing is broken. Open the same link in the browser you signed up on — or just log in, because the click itself already confirmed your email address.
My email link says it has expired. How do I get a new one?
For confirmation, submit the signup form again with the same address; there is no resend button on the web. For a password reset, go to the login page, type your address in the Email field, then tap Forgot password?.
It says my reset link is invalid or already used.
Reset links work once. Request a fresh one from the login page and open it straight away, in the same browser. If a previous attempt already set your new password, try signing in with it first.
My IT department’s email scanner clicks links automatically. What can I do?
Request a fresh link and open it immediately. A single-use link that has already been clicked cannot be reused. If it keeps happening, forward the email to a personal address and click it from there.
